The Guanghua School of Management proudly announces that nine of its professors are recognized as Highly Cited Chinese Scientists of 2023 by Elsevier, a prestigious academic publication group. It is the tenth list release since its inception in 2015, drawing considerable attention from scholars worldwide.
Professors Chen Yuyu, Liu Qiao, and Liu Xiaolei from the Department of Applied Economics have been awarded for their exceptional contributions to the field of “Applied Economics”; Professor Zhang Xiaobo from the Department of Applied Economics for his outstanding work in “Theoretical Economics”; Professors Lu Jiangyong and Wang Hui from the Department of Organization and Strategic Management and Professors Jiang Guohua from the Department of Accounting have been recognized for their remarkable achievements in “Business Administration”; and Professors Chen Songxi and Wang Hansheng from the Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics have been recognized for their significant contributions to “Statistics”. We are proud of our professors for their outstanding work and for bringing honor to our institution.
Elsevier released its 2023 “Annual List of Highly Cited Chinese Researchers”, highlighting China’s research talent and disciplinary strengths. Guanghua School of Management has several professors featured on the list multiple times. Notably, Professors Wang Hansheng and Jiang Guohua have been recognized on the list for the tenth consecutive year.

Chen Songxi
Professor Chen Songxi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, joined Guanghua in May 2008 and is now University Chair Professor at Peking University. He also serves as The Founding Director of the Center for Statistical Science at Peking University. Chen graduated from Beijing Normal University with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Mathematical Statistics. In 1990, he received a master’s degree in Statistics and Operations Research from the Victoria University of Wellington. In 1993, he obtained a Ph.D. in Statistics from Australian National University.
His research interests include High Dimensional Data Analysis, Statistics for Environmental Applications and Geophysics Studies, Econometrics, and Inference for Stochastic Processes. He currently teaches Advanced Multivariate Analysis, Asymptotic Statistics, and Applied Statistics for the PhD and MBA programs.
Chen Yuyu
Chen Yuyu is a Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, and Director of Peking University’s Economic Policy Research Institute. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Australian National University in 2002 and previously worked at the National Economic System Reform Commission. Chen’s research focuses on economic development, productivity, human capital, health, pollution, behavioral economics, labor markets, income distribution, and regional disparities. His work has been published in various international and domestic journals such as PNAS, Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, etc. Chen has received numerous awards for his research and teaching excellence, including the 2013-2014 Peking University “Teaching Excellence Award.” His courses include macroeconomics, applied econometrics, economic policy analysis, labor economics, and Chinese economy.
Jiang Guohua
Dr. Jiang Guohua, a Professor of Accounting at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, serves as a vice-provost and the Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Peking University. He has been a member of the China National MPAcc Education Steering Committee and the Stock Issuance Review Committee of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. Dr. Jiang has also worked with the World Economic Forum, KPMG International, and Bosera Fund Management. Recognized as a National Leading Talent in Accounting and an Elsevier Chinese Most Cited Researcher, Dr. Jiang holds degrees from Peking University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley.
Lu Jiangyong
Prof. Lu Jiangyong is a distinguished Organization & Strategic Management professor at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. He is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation’s Outstanding Youth Award and the Ministry of Education’s Changjiang Scholar Professorship. Prof. Lu’s research focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation, international business, and international economics. He has published 20+ papers in Chinese journals and 50+ papers in SSCI journals, winning awards such as the McKinsey China Economic Research Award and the An Zijie International Trade Research Award. Prof. Lu has led national and international research projects and authored best-selling books on strategy and innovation.
Liu Qiao
Professor LIU Qiao is the Dean and Professor of Finance at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. He is a leading authority in economics and finance in China and is recognized for his academic work in corporate finance, financial markets, and the Chinese economy. He is the author of “The Finance We Love: Rebuilding China’s Finance in the New Era”, “Big to Brilliant 2.0: Reconstructing the Underpinnings of China’s High-Quality Development”, “Corporate China 2.0: The Great Shakeup” and “Finance in Asia: Institutions, Regulation and Policy”. Professor LIU is the Chang Jiang Scholar Special Term Professor awarded by the Ministry of Education, the Distinguished Young Scholar awarded by the National Science Foundation, and the Most Influential Chinese Economist of 2017 awarded by China Newsweek. He worked at McKinsey & Company from 2001 to 2003, where he advised various MNCs and leading Asian companies on corporate finance and strategies. Before joining Guanghua, he taught in the Faculty of Business & Economics of HKU and was tenured.
Liu Xiaolei
Liu Xiaolei is a distinguished finance and accounting scholar, serving as Boya Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Finance Department at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. Her research has been published in leading academic journals and has won multiple awards. She has also won the Zeng Xianzi Excellent Teaching Award. She is currently serving as an associate editor for several academic journals. Before joining Peking University, she taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and received tenure there. Her research interests include capital markets and corporate finance, with a recent focus on China-related topics.
Wang Hansheng
Wang Hansheng is a professor at the Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics at Peking University, having earned his Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of several prominent statistical associations and has published over 50 English and 20 Chinese papers. He has authored a monograph and a Chinese textbook and has served as an associate professor for many academic journals, including The Annals of Statistics, Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, Statistics and its Interface, and Journal of the American Statistical Association. His research interests include ultra-high dimensional data analysis, regression, dimension reduction, and nonparametric and semi-parametric models, and he has published papers on topics such as sample size calculation in clinical research and applied business statistical analysis.
Wang Hui
Prof. Hui WANG is a professor at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. He got his master’s degree from Peking University, majoring in social psychology, and a Ph.D. from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, specializing in organizational behavior and human resource management. Since he joined Guanghua in 2002, he has published over 150 papers and several books on leadership and organizational behavior, including journals of Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Process, Personnel Psychology, Management and Organization Review, Journal of World Business, etc.. Prof. Wang has received numerous awards and honors, including being selected for the Ministry of Education’s New Century Talent Support Plan. He actively applies his research to business practices and provides training and consulting services for various companies on the topics of leadership, corporate culture, and human resource management. Prof. Wang also serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals, such as Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies and Service Business: An International Journal.
Zhang Xiaobo
Xiaobo Zhang’s main research areas focus on agricultural economics, development economics, and the Chinese economy. He has published over 90 articles in peer-reviewed English journals, including the journal of Political Economy, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, European Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Economic Perspective, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Public Economics, and Proceedings of National Academy of Science. His publications are widely cited. As of October 2022, Google Scholar lists more than 18,200 citations of publications authored or co-authored by him. The h-index and i10-index for Xiaobo compiled by Google Scholar is 59 and 161, respectively. He received the Sun Yefang Prize for Economics Research in China (the most prestigious award in the field of economics in China), the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Outstanding Achievement Award (the highest award in the field of development economics), and the Pushan Award on Outstanding Articles in International Economics. He has rich field experience in developing countries, such as leading the Guizhou Household Panel Survey (four waves on more than 800 households), China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) survey (co-PI), Enterprise Survey for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in China (ESIEC), Quarterly Online Survey on Micro-and-small Enterprises (OSOME) in China, cluster surveys in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Myanmar, and Tunisia as well as village surveys in China and India.
