President of King’s College London meets with PKUHSC President Qiao Jie

Peking University September 15, 2024: On August 29, 2024, Shitij Kapur, President of King’s College London (KCL) led a delegation to visit Peking University. During the meeting, the two universities announced that the fourth round of application for the “PKUHSC-KCL Joint Institute for Medical Research” project would be issued in September 2024.

Qiao Jie, PKU Executive Vice President, PKUHSC President, and Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed that both universities have a strong foundation in scientific research cooperation and talent training. She hoped that both sides would continue to work together in promoting future medical developments.

Kapur shared that KCL and PKU have shared a long history of cooperation, with the collaboration in medicine yielding fruitful achievements, especially in the research fields of tumor, mental health, and cardiovascular diseases. This has greatly contributed to the promotion of the development of global health cause. Kapur also emphasized that KCL cherished its partnership with PKU and looked forward to promoting scientific research and technological innovation in the future, while working together to cultivate more innovative talents with international competitiveness.

Both universities proceeded to sign a new undergraduate medicine exchange agreement, which seeks to strengthen the cooperation in medical education and talent training.

Both universities had also held an academic exchange seminar. Lu Lin, President of PKU Sixth Hospital and Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Wang Guiqiang from PKUHSC Department of Infectious Disease held in-depth discussions with visiting experts on the innovative models of medical education, scientific research cooperation and talent training in the fields of neuroscience, mental health and infectious diseases.
