Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Visits Peking University

Peking University October 10, 2024: On September 28, 2024, Narbayeva Tanzila Kamalovna, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and her delegation visited Peking University (PKU). The meeting was also attended by Tan Lin, a member of the Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the National People's Congress. Hao Ping, PKU Council Chair, exchanged views with the delegation at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. The meeting was hosted by PKU Vice President Fang Fang.

Hao Ping welcomed Narbayeva and her delegation to Peking University. He said that the development of China-Uzbekistan relations has entered a new stage, and Peking University has always actively promoted academic exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. Peking University has established a good foundation for cooperation with Uzbekistan's higher education institutions in many disciplines, such as humanities, mathematics, engineering, archaeology, etc., and has organized a series of high-end academic activities, such as the “China-Central Asia Mathematics Forum”. Peking University has also established a “Public Uzbek Language” course and actively organized field research trips to Uzbekistan for teachers and students. In May 2024, Peking University established the Centre for Central Asian Studies (CCSAS), marking a new step in Central Asian studies at Peking University. Looking ahead, Peking University will further expand in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan and Central Asian countries in more fields.

Narbayeva thanked Peking University for their warm reception. She stressed that Uzbekistan and China have established an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era, and the two sides have achieved remarkable results in cooperation in the fields of trade and humanistic exchanges. She introduced the new progress in the field of education in Uzbekistan, including the increase in the coverage of education and the growth in the proportion of female enrolment, as well as the study and work of Chinese teachers and students in Uzbekistan. Narbayeva expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation with Peking University in terms of faculty and student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, joint training, and the use of digital technology to enhance education.

The event was also attended by representatives of PKU School of Mathematical Sciences, College of Engineering, Department of History, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Studies, Law School, School of Government, School of Economics, National School of Development, Office of Scientific Research, Office of Social Sciences, and Office of International Relations.
