Graduates will be awarded a PhD Degree in either Economics or Management Science, depending on their major.
The program can be completed entirely in English, with English serving as the medium of instruction for required coursework and doctoral dissertations.
The Guanghua PhD program is a full-time program only. It will be impossible to combine a PhD with your work. Note that we offer a full tuition scholarship plus a generous stipend to cover living expenses during the 4 years of study; thus, working while studying is not necessary.
The Guanghua PhD program will not be offered on distance learning format once pandemic situation permits. All courses are compulsory and take place on our campus.
Guanghua Research Master (Pre-doctoral) Program is designed for bachelor’s degree holders with outstanding intellectual ability and a strong commitment to research who intend to work for a university or another academic or research-focused institution. Master’s degree holders can apply directly to a PhD Program.
Students who do not meet the Ph.D. admissions requirements will still be eligible to complete their Research Master program requirements and receive their Master's degree.
Generally, the application process will proceed according to the following steps: 1) online submission of required application materials; 2) application review by Guanghua Admissions Committee; 3) qualifying applicants notified of interview conducted by Guanghua Interview Panel; 4) notifications sent to admitted applicants.
A written test may be administered as part of the interview process, especially for math-intensive majors.
Applications are assessed holistically and many variables are considered in the application review process. Application decisions depend primarily on an evaluation of the candidate’s ability to handle complex course material and do original research. Evidence of strong intellectual ability — as indicated by test scores, course grades, or letters of recommendation — is the most important factor.
We do not have a cut-off GPA. The admissions committee will conduct a comprehensive review of a candidate’s suitability for the program. The strength of recommendation letters, previous academic achievement during undergraduate or graduate studies, and the extent to which research goals align with the research interests of Guanghua’s faculty will all be key factors evaluated during the review process.
After the deadline, graduate applications are processed and departments will be working hard to provide decisions as soon as possible. You will be noticed of your application status via the email address you provide. Please check your email regularly so as not to miss any notification. The interviews invitation will be in March. In some cases, it may take longer for us to assess your application than is usually the case, and we are very sorry if you experience any delays.
Candidates will receive email acknowledgments from the Guanghua PhD Program Admissions Team informing them whether their application is complete, is missing materials, or if further information is needed.
Pre-admitted candidates are required to mail their application materials to Office of Global Affairs of Guanghua School of Management Peking University. Specific submission details will be provided in the admission notice.
At Guanghua, we do not require applicants to contact a supervisor in advance during the application process. Please select "No" in the field of "Have you got in touch with the advisor" when you apply to the PhD or Research Master program at Guanghua School of Management.
Unfortunately, the application fee for admission could not be waived.
Applicants whose native language is not English and whose undergraduate and postgraduate programs were not taught in English, are required to demonstrate English language proficiency. The TOEFL or IELTS requirement may be waived only if the applicant's native language is English or he/she submits a transcript indicating successful completion of an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree from a university or college where the primary language of instruction is English.
If, upon review, faculty is interested in your application with a missing required TOEFL or IELTS score, we will contact you at that time to request a score.
Decisions about whether or not you will be offered a place is not provided at the interview itself. The Graduate Admissions Office will notify you of the department's decision once the selection process has been completed; this may be some time after the interview.
Our application cycle for the upcoming academic year will officially commence in October and be due in February.
