We offer a full-time Research Master's Program (Pre-doctoral Program) for talented individuals who possess a bachelor's degree—but do not have a Master's degree—and wish to apply to a PhD program at Peking University Guanghua School of Management. While master’s degree holders may apply directly to a PhD program, bachelor’s degree holders must first enroll in the Pre-doctoral Program before they can be considered for a PhD program.
The Pre-doctoral Program can be completed entirely in English, with English serving as the medium of instruction for required coursework and the students' dissertations. Applicants are expected to possess strong analytical skills, and have an interest in conducting academic research in Economics, Finance, and Management.
In this integrated program, students will first enroll in a Research Master’s Program (the standard study period is two years). Subject to satisfactory performance and successfully passing an examination, students will then be eligible to enroll in a corresponding 3-year PhD program. Most of the coursework required for the PhD program is expected to be completed during the Pre-doctoral Program so that students can focus primarily on their research and dissertation once they have transitioned to the PhD program. Students who do not meet the PhD admissions requirements will still be eligible to complete their Research Master’s Program requirements and receive their master's degree.
The Pre-doctoral Program is designed for individuals with outstanding intellectual ability and a strong commitment to research who intend to work for a university or another academic or research-focused institution. The program consists of doctoral coursework and research training that thoroughly prepares students for conducting PhD thesis research during the three years after transitioning to their PhD program. The Pre-doctoral Program allows students to explore the many research areas that Guanghua offers, fully develop their research interests, and identify one or more advisors that share their interests.
