The Department of Applied Economics at the Guanghua School of Management has long been known for generating high-quality teaching and research, while also creating and promulgating economics knowledge for the benefit of society. We play a major role in promoting the theoretical study of cutting-edge economics issues and are committed to using international standardized methodology to study Chinese economic issues.
In the 2025 THE World University Rankings by Subject, Peking University’s "Economics and Econometrics" was ranked 13th in the world, and 2nd in Asia. We obtained an A+ rating in Applied Economics in the Fourth Round of China Discipline Ranking (CDR) by the Ministry of Education.

Undertook and completed two national 14th Five-Year Plan projects "Improving Factor Market Allocation Implementation Paths and Major Measures for China" and "China in 2035 and Prospects for China".
The program provides students with a solid foundation in modern economic theories and empirical methods and provides opportunities to study how Chinese economic issues play out in practice. The close relationship between faculty members and graduate students often leads students to publish world-class economic research articles.
